The Story of Esther and The Church Today:

Updated: Mar 2, 2021

In the story of Esther, we see several characters and situations that are easily identified with; even in today’s world:

Good Mordecai: The man of God in this story, understands the importance of ‘sitting in the gate’ - of having authority and influence over his own household and within roles of the government. He could also appreciate what it was to be subject to a clueless Ruler who surrounds himself with wicked counsel. Mordecai realized that we can give the ‘powers that be’ too much power - and that God's favor is where the real power is..

We also see Vashti, a Queen (palace celebrity), who understood what real cancel-culture meant - and so her replacement, Queen Esther, was very aware of how fragile her own position was. But yet, she too understood that God's favor was more important - and that she had a purpose and a platform to speak for God’s people..

And while the King was rather clueless - his right-hand man, Haman, was pretty crafty. Although he held a position of great power over the people, his own wealth and status held precedent over them. He knew how to manipulate the King - but his pride and hatred would be his humiliation and downfall..

In the end - it was loyalty and faithfulness to God that won the day.. and those who plotted against Him were destroyed..

So, now the final character to be mentioned here is never actually mentioned at all in the story - It is God Himself – yet, His presence is profound and undeniable.. Through the voices and through the hands and feet of His people - they proclaim that He Is - and He exclaims “you are not alone!”

Today, we can identify with the characters of this story – in that God is still moving in and through The Body of Christ through Holy Spirit.. That we have a purpose and obligation to be the voice and the hands and feet of God -

to sit in the gates and make sure that our households are following the ordinances of God - to use our authority and influence wherever we are, with whatever platform we've been given - including places of government -

to be brave even in times of fragility; understanding that God's favor is more important than man's - to not allow a cancel-culture to override our faith in what is right and our confidence in who we are -

but most of all to take advantage of our freedom to proclaim that HE IS and to speak The Name, “Yahweh! - YHVH! Yeshua! Ruach Kodesh!” We Are Not Alone…
